Essay

The purpose of the thesis is to highlight the trends of university education development in New Zealand (XX – the beginning of the XXI centuries). Social, political, economic, pedagogical and historical prerequisites are investigated. It is revealed that while being an isolated country geographically the colonial status of New Zealand enabled rapid development of the country’s economy. To satisfy a growing nation and necessity for development the early founders of society developed training programs to provide people with suitable qualifications for all branches of the economy (mining, medicine, science, engineering etc). Then as a result of growing needs for formalized education, the university education system was established in the second half of the 19th century.
