Essay

The study object is art education in the national history of pedagogy of the late twentieth century; the study subject is features of visual arts development as a component of art education in secondary schools in Ukraine in the second half of the XX century; the purpose of research is to implement a holistic historical and pedagogical analysis of the development of art education in general educational institutions of Ukraine in the second half of the XX century; study methods: historical and pedagogical analysis of research papers, documents; systematization of historical facts, scientific literature, archival sources to explore and summarize the experience of formation and organization of arts education in Ukraine; systematic analysis of pedagogical ideas in the field of art education and fine arts; systematization and synthesis methods for the analysis of archival documents, artistic, educational, art, scientific and methodical literature, periodicals of studied period in the philosophical, psychological and pedagogical aspects; comparative historical analysis of documentary sources, archival materials, fine arts achievements to identify key trends, content, forms, methods, principles and objectives of arts education in Ukraine; the scientific novelty of research: the comprehensive analysis of the development of school art education, including fine arts of Ukraine in the second half of XX century is performed in historical and pedagogical aspects for the first time; stages and main development trends of arts education in Ukraine in the second half of the XX century are substantiated in certain chronological limits: the first period (1949-1959) - correction of the goals and objectives of arts education in Ukraine based on secondary schools experience; the second period (1960-1979) - formation of scientific and methodical foundations of art education in the fine arts field; the third period (1980-1990) - determining the content of art education and specifics of its implementation on Fine Arts; fourth period (1991-2000) - introduction of innovative technologies in the theory and practice of art education; description of the purpose and objectives of the visual arts in the secondary school of the second half of XX century; clarified meaning, purpose, objectives of general art education in the context of social and educational needs of the society of the late twentieth century and trends in the fine arts study in secondary schools in Ukraine; clarified the fine arts content in secondary schools based on the analysis of curricula, programs, manuals, the opinions of leading personalities in the field of art education school of the second part of XX century; specified the development of principles and methods of teaching visual arts at general educational institutions of Ukraine in the second half of XX century.
