The object of research - the development of pedagogical local history in historical and modern dimensions; the subject of research - the formation and development of pedagogical local history in Poltava region in the end of 19-20th century; the research objective - to ground stages, components, functions, and tendencies of pedagogical local history development in Poltava region during 19th and 20th centuries; to discover and generalize pedagogical experience of scientists whom practical activity is connected with Poltava region; the methods - general scientific, empirical methods, statistical methods; the scientific newness of the research lies in the fact that: for the first time in the historical-pedagogical science of our country the periods and tendencies of the development of the pedagogical local history were defined; the heritage of the famous educationists of Poltava region was examined; the scientific description of the search process in the end of 19-20th century, the main sense of witch was to reveal pedagogical achievements of the educationists of Poltava region, was presented in the light of pedagogical and local history context; the theoretical foundation of the pedagogical and local history investigations in the works of Ukrainian and foreign educationists regarding the period of the investigation was elucidated; the classification and systematization of the pedagogical local history of Poltava region in the end of 19-20th century was given; the achievements of pedagogical local history of Poltava region were constructively used for the training of math teachers in the "Math history" course; the historical and pedagogical knowledge about substance, forms and methods of local history research was improved; the numerous research in the field of historiography has gotten it's further development, many little-known scientific sources were put into the scientific circulation.
