Object: musical education in the Taurida Governorate at the end of XIX – beginning of XX century; goal: is to create a scientific view on the problem of the formation and development of musical education in the Taurida Governorate at the end of XIX – beginning of XX century; methods: theoretical; novelty: for the first time the features of the formation and development of musical education in the Taurida Governorate at the end of XIX – beginning of XX century are analyzed, the historical, socio-economic, educational and cultural preconditions of musical education in the Taurida Governorate at the end of XIX – beginning of XX century are defined; the stages of this process are specified; for scientific use the unknown and little-known archival documents related to the formation of a system of musical education in the Taurida Governorate at the end of XIX – beginning of XX century are introduced, the possibilities of using the experience of music education in the Taurida Governorate at the end of XIX – beginning of XX century in modern educational institutions of Ukraine are clarified; questions of the content, forms and methods of music education and questions of the contribution of prominent teachers and musicians in the development of music education are solved; results: the main provisions of the thesis can be used for further improvement of the theory and practice of contemporary musical education; field of study: general pedagogy and history of pedagogy.
