Essay

The dissertation is devoted to experimental substantiation of the dominant influence of various anticonvulsants on the left and right hemispheres of the brain that contribute to a rational pharmacotherapy of epilepsy based on the localization of focus of epileptic activity in the left or right hemisphere. In functional, electrophysiological and neurochemical levels established dominant (preferred) anticonvulsant action of carbamazepine, lamotrigine and topiramate on the right, and sodium valproate in the left hemisphere of the brain. Phenobarbital under these conditions showed the same (ambivalent) impact on both hemispheres. These survey results provide an opportunity to consider a differentiated approach to assigning different anticonvulsants in the treatment of epilepsy, depending on the localization of foсus of epileptic activity in the left or right hemisphere of the brain.
