The thesis of Monatko K.V. research deals with the review of the nephroprotective action of the watermelon pulp lyophilized powder (WLP). The experiment has demonstrated its diuretic and sodium-uretic properties when used in the dose of 150 mg/kg. The use of the WLP in ethylene glycol, myoglobinuric acute renal failure or gentamicin and doxorubicin nephropathy has demonstrated its nephroprotective action, specifically, by maintaining the excretory renal function, electrolyte metabolism, reducing the marked nature of proteinuria, and normalizing macro- and microscopic presentation of kidneys. In the preventive and therapeutic administration, the WLP used in the dose of 150 mg/kg and 250 mg/kg produces its litholytic effect in an experimental oxalate nephrolithiasis model. The results of morphological studies allow to conclude on a more marked effect of the WLP on the renal calcium deposit levels and sizes versus the reference Kanefron H. The WLP produces an antioxidant effect, which is critical in nephrolithiasis. The WLP has anti-inflammatory properties, demonstrated in the delayed onset of carrageenan-, formalin- and zymosan-induced edemas. The WLP has an antimicrobial effect on depository and clinical strains of microorganisms. The results of toxicological studies have demonstrates its safety. The study outcomes have provided an experimental rationale for feasibility of developing a new WLP-based nephroprotector.
