Pezhynska O. French language toponyms: dynamics of forms and functional properties.

The thesis is devoted to the investigation of French toponyms, to the peculiarities of their formation, semantics and functionality. The history of linguistic research of French toponyms has been clarified, the concept of "toponym" in onomastic terminology of the French language has been outlined. The French toponyms have been classified according to etymological marks. The investigational technique of their structure and functional characteristics has been developed. The toponyms have been characterized on the basis of lexical-graphical references, the majority of which consist of appellative vocabulary, their main lexical-thematic groups have been separated according to lexical and semantic criteria. The peculiarities of the formation of toponyms deriving from onims have been distinguished, the linguistic analysis has determined their basic derivational components. The structural word building aspects of toponyms and their characteristics have been examined. The dictionary of toponyms has been set up.
