Essay

Object - the teaching process in educational establishments for women in Ukraine of the XIXth - the early XXth century; the aim - on the basis of analysis of historical and pedagogical literary sources and archival documents to systematize theoretical ideas and generalize the practice of foreign language teaching in educational establishments for women in Ukraine of the XIXth - the early XXth century and to determine the perspectives on implementing the progressive achievements of the period under research in present day educational practice; methods - general theoretical, comparative-historical, of chronological retrospection, prognostic; novelty - the research is the first to provide a comprehensive historical-pedagogical study of the problem of foreign language teaching in educational establishments for women in Ukraine of the period under research and to determine the stages in the development of the problem of study; the ideas of domestic and foreign scholars and educators of the researched period on the problem of organized education for women and teaching them foreign languages are systematized; the practice of teaching foreign languages in educational establishments for women during the given period is generalized; the tendencies in the development of the problem of foreign language teaching in educational establishments of Ukraine for women during the given period are revealed; the ideas on the creative implementation of the progressive achievements in the sphere of foreign language teaching to women generalized in the research in the present day secondary and higher educational establishments are suggested; the issues concerning the history and development of the system of home education for women and the teaching process organization in boarding schools for girls, institutes for noble ladies, ladies' schools and gymnasiums of different types have acquired further study; results - the research considers the pedagogical ideas of the past and determines the typological similarity with the present day difficulties in teaching foreign languages; it allows to implement the progressive achievements in the history of pedagogy and resolve the problems existing in teaching foreign languages. The theoretical ideas, conclusions, factual data of the research will be helpful for preparing lectures, planning seminars and organizing students' individual self-study while learning "Pedagogy", "History of Pedagogy", "Methods of Foreign Language Teaching". The materials of the research will be helpful for working out specific teaching courses, textbooks, teaching manuals, teaching recommendations; field - pedagogy.
