Object - the teaching process in secondary schools of Ukraine in the second part of XX century; theaim-to systematize the theoretical ideas and generalize the practice of implementing the principle of knowledge durability in secondary schools of Ukraine in the second part of XX century on the basis of historical pedagogical literary sources analysis in order to improve the teaching and educational process in secondary schools; methods -general scientific, historical, comparative, prognostic; novelty - the research is the first to provide a characteristic of the origin and development of the principle of knowledge durability in the aspect of History of Pedagogy; the stages in the development ofthe principle of knowledge durability in the Didactics of Ukraine in the second part of XX century have been determined on the basis of the state educational policy, developments in Pedagogy as a science, didactic developments in particular; the practice of implementation of the principle of knowledge durability in secondary schools of Ukraine in the second part of XX century has been generalized; the perspectives for the implementation of progressive ideas on the given problem in the process of Ukrainian school reform have been defined; the definitions of the terms "knowledge", "knowledge acquisition", "quality of knowledge", "durability of knowledge", "the principle of teaching"," the principle of knowledge durability" have been specified; the ideas concerning the social and political, social and economic, and organizational and pedagogic orientation of the development and implementation of the principle of knowledge durability in secondary schools have acquired further study; results -the materials of the research provide an impartialscientific interpretation of the problem of the principle of knowledge durability and point out the ways for improving the quality of teaching in secondary schools of Ukraine.The materials of the research will be helpful for the staff of pedagogical colleges, institutes, universities, institutes of post-diploma education and pedagogical professional development agencies for making decisions on the content of teacher training programmes, for working out the content of such disciplines as "Pedagogy", "History of Pedagogy", "Mastery of Teaching" and other disciplines at higher teacher training institutions as well as for writing textbooks, teaching manuals, other teaching sources and organization of teaching practice; field - pedagogy.
