The main forms of distance education are analyzed, and its main underlying theories are introduced. The analysis examines the characteristic stages of distance education development and defines the main historical preconditions for the development of distance education in Great Britain. The dissertation presents the institutional and structural organization, content, methodological and technological foundations of distance education. The research sets out the specificities of the tutor system. The dissertation provides a comprehensive analysis of trends in the development of the British distance education system.
