Essay

The work is devoted to the problems of complex analysis of the principal dominants of Andzhei Kusnevich's prose. The peculiarities of its reception and reinterpretation were defined. The writer's creative work was researched on the background of the artistic movement of the Kresy ("frontier") literature. The influence of Kusnevich's stories on the formation of the new Polish prose of the twentieth century was analyzed. The focus of attention in the thesis is problematic aspects of the writer's works which include historical memory, neomythology of the plot and narrative strategies of the prose. Particular attention in the research is paid to the clarifying of interrelations between the writer's work and historical events of the early twentieth century. It was proved that the image of "the Other" in Kusnevich's literary prose had positive representation. The importance of the writer's real and creative biography and their place in the author's prose were shown. Myths that are characteristic of the Kresy literature were elucidated; however the myth of Ukraine was transformed into the myth of Galicia in Kusnevich's prose, which is studied along with the Habsburg myth. Main archetypes of the writer's creative work were defined. Special emphasis was placed on the examination of the author's myths and symbols. The specificity of composition forms of Kusnevich's thinking was established in the thesis, where the main attention is devoted to the classification of narrator types, narrative forms, the explanation of the author's "I" and his self-projection in the work.
