Ivanenko I. Functional specificity pre-translational text analysis of contemporary German-language novels

The thesis is devoted to translation as a process and the development of methods of pre-translational analysis of literary works on the example of modern German-language novels. The research is focused on pre-translational phase of work with the text, in the frame of which the features of the artistic (literary) text, the basic theory of translation, linguistics and literature, as well as the methods used in these theories and in the development of contemporary translation studies have been investigated. Based on the theories discussed in the dissertation, a methodology of pre-translational text analysis was developed, its relevance in the translation of works of art – investigated, as well as effectiveness in achieving the adequacy of the translation of contemporary German-language novel. The notion of pre-translational text analysis was characterized. The notions "counterfactual topos" and "counterfactual toponym"(this sort of toponyms was found in the corpus of analyzed texts) have been defined. The study introduced the methodology of checking the adequacy of the translation of the text, according to which the semantic translation unit can be used.
