Essay

This dissertation is devoted to the studies of the linocut presented by the artistic works of Kharkiv artists throughout the period of 1910 to 1980. The author managed to disclose for the first time the genesis and the stages of the development of the linocut technique in the artistic environment in the city of Kharkov. The influence of historical, cultural and political factors on the development of the linocut art has been highlighted. A circle of the masters of the Kharkiv-based linoleum engraving has been identified. Their creative backlog has been analyzed; the peculiarities of the artistic language of the works, genre, thematic subject and figurative priorities were established. The works, the names of local linoleum engravers and documents were introduced into the scientific circulation.
