Object -the process of analysis and reflection of the problem of teacher's authority in Ukrainian national educational thought; theaim-to systematize theoretical ideas and generalize the directionsin the study and reflection of the problem of teacher's authority in Ukrainian national educational thought during the second half of the XXth century in order to use the acquired positive experience of the past in the teaching process at general secondary schools and higher educational establishments; methods -general scientific, historical, comparative, retrospective, prognostic; novelty -the dissertation is the first to present the comprehensive analysis of the problem of teacher's authority in the aspect of History of Pedagogy; the stages in the study and development of the problem of teacher's authority in Ukrainian national educational thoughtduring the second half of the XXth century are determined on the basis of the analysis of social-economic, social and political peculiarities of the state educational policy and ideas of leading domestic scholars on the essence, modes and directions of teacher's authority reflection within the researched period;the directions in the reflection of the problem of teacher's authority in Ukrainian national educational thought are singled out; the definition of the term "authority" is specified, the terms "teacher's authority", "parents' authority", " "prestige"are defined and specified; the archival materials that have not been studied before are offered for scientific analysis (62); results -the materials of the research provide a new scientific interpretation of the problem of teacher's authority in Ukrainian national educational thought of the second half of the XXth century and offer suggestions for raising prestige and status of the present day teacher and changing his image in the society. The Materials of the research will be helpful to those engaged in teaching in pedagogical colleges, institutes, universities, post-diploma educational establishments, for working out courses on "Pedagogy", "History of Pedagogy", "Mastery of Teaching", special courses and seminars for students of higher pedagogical educational establishments; field - pedagogy.
