Essay

Object -the teaching process in the universities of Great Britain; theaim-to systematize theoretical ideas and analyse the practice of students' independent work organization in the universities of Great Britain in order to use the acquired positive experience in the present day development of higher education in Ukraine; methods -general scientific, historical, empirical, comparative, prognostic; novelty -the dissertation is the first to systematize theoretical ideas and determine the contribution of British scholars and educationalists in the study of theoretical issues dealing with students' independent work organization; the data concerning the practice of students' independent work organization in the universities of Great Britainare generalized;the specific aspects of tutoring system functioning are considered; the choice of individual and group forms of teaching and the variety of methods of independent work are analysed; the tendencies in the students' independent work organization in the universities of Great Britain are determined; the suggestions concerning creative use of the acquired positive experience of students' independent work organization in the universities of Great Britain are offered; the peculiarities of the teaching process organization in the universities of Great Britain are specified; the problem of students' independent work organization in the universities of Great Britain has acquired further investigation; results -the theoretical ideas and conclusions of the research will be helpful in implementing the Bologna process principles and integrating national system of education into the European educational space; they provide a source for further comparative studies of theory and practiceof teaching process organization of higher education in Ukraine and abroad. The materials of the dissertation are recommended for the use in the system of higher and post-diploma education in Ukraine in teaching psychological, pedagogical and professionally-oriented disciplines; they may be used for working out teaching courses on "Pedagogy", "Pedagogy of Higher Education", "Comparative Pedagogy", "History of Pedagogy", "Mastery of Teaching", special courses and seminars for higher educational establishments of III-IV levels of accreditation as well as for writing textbooks and teaching manuals; field - pedagogy.
