The thesis is devoted to theoretical and experimental substantiation of commodity research results of the feasibility of using for uppers of shoes for a special purpose the leather which is produced by using the fatliquoring and hydrophobization with using the emulsion composition which contains alkene-maleic polymer and solving of the important problems for the science about the goods, for consumers, light industry and trade for the expansion of assortment leather for shoe uppers. For the first time the possibility to improve water repellent properties of the leather by the use of hydrophobization with using compositions which contain the alkene-maleic polymer was provided. On the basis of patent search results and analysis of the literature the feasibility of using the fatliquoring emulsion for semi-finished leather with well-chosen composition fatliquoring composition and the possibility of the expansion the assortment of the hydrophobic leathers with preserving water repellent propeties for a long time was proved. The experience of forming the water repellent properties of the leather for uppers of shoes a special purpose has been generalized, the purposeful ways of modifying the structure of the leather in the process of hydrophobization has been substantiated and a method of fatliquoring and hydrophobization of leather for shoe uppers for a special purpose has been developed. According to the results of laboratory research and optimizations with many-criteria optimal composition of ingredients of composition for fatliquoring was established in percentage: alkene polymer-maleic 4.0-4.5; formic acid 2,0-2,5; fish oil or sunflower oil - 1,7-2,0. The consumer properties of fatliquoring-hydrophobic leather with using emulsion compositions which contain the alkene-maleic polymer have been researched and complex evaluation of its quality based on generalized functions desirability was carried out. The testing operation of experimental party of shoes for a special purpose the details of which are made of fatliquoring-hydrophobic leather with using emulsion compositions which contain the alkene-maleic polymer was carried out and its results confirmed a high level of hydrophobic properties and the sufficient durability as well as comfort and hygiene of such footwear. The socio-economic efficiency from the implementation and use of the developed method of fatliquoring and of hydrophobization of leather has been evaluated.
