Essay

This thesis provides in-depth review of theory and practice of experimental schools development in Ukraine over the second half of the 20th ct. and early 21st ct. It identifies the historiography, sources, scientific and theoretical basis for research, and also describes previous achievements of experimental schools in Ukraine and abroad from late 19th ct. through 1930s, which set the agenda for innovative pedagogic movement of the 20th century in Ukraine. Three periods of experimental school development in Ukraine have been identified: Period 1 - from early 1960s to mid-1970s, formation of experimental schools based on ideas of V. Sukhomlynskyi; Period 2 - from late 1970s to early 1990s, expansion of personality-oriented trends in experimental models; Period 3 - from mid-1990s to early 21 ct., transformation of existing experimental schools and formation of new ones.
