Object - the social and educational activity in the secondary schools of Ukraine of 20 - 90's of the XXth century; the aim - the systematization of theoretical theses and the generalization of the experience of social and educational services' activity in the native secondary schools of the studied period for the creative use of the achievements of the past in present conditions of the development of the society and education; methods - theoretical, comparative and historical, chronological, logical and structural, retrospective, empirical and observational, praksymetrychni, prognostic; novelty - for the first time: the integral historical and pedagogical analysis of the problem of social and educational services' activity in the secondary schools of Ukraine at the particular historical period is realized; stages of the formation and the development of social and educational services in the native secondary schools are scientifically grounded; leading directions and functions are identified and characterized; the prospects of the creative use of pedagogically valuable ideas and the experience of social and educational services' activity in the secondary schools of Ukraine of the studied period in modern conditions of the formation of the Ukrainian state are defined; prognostic trends of the further development of the problems that are being studied are formulated. The ideas of the socio-historical, socio-economic and organizational-pedagogical conditionality of social and educational services' functioning in the secondary schools of Ukraine are concretized; forms and methods of the social and educational activity in the native secondary schools in 20 - 90's of the XXth century are determined; Results - the theses and the findings formulated in the result of the scientific research provide the integral representation of the features of the development of the national educational system and pedagogical thought of 20 - 90's of the XXth century. The results can become a basis for the further historical and pedagogical research and contribute to the preservation and the transfer of the valuable historical and pedagogical experience. The study's materials can be used in the educational process of higher pedagogical institutions while teaching courses "History of Pedagogy", "General Pedagogy", "Social pedagogy" for students, graduates, competitors and teachers; while preparing course and master works, in the process of the development of special courses and seminars in pedagogical institutions of the III-IVth accreditation levels; field - pedagogy.
