Object - educational-cognitive activity of students at Ukrainian higher educational establishments during the second part of XX century; the aim - to systematize the theoretical ideas and generalize the practical experience of organization of control over students' educational-cognitive activity at Ukrainian higher educational establishments during the second part of XX century in order to creatively implement them in the present day teaching practice; methods - general scientific, historical-pedagogical, of criteria complex, notion and term analysis-oriented; novelty - the research is the first to present the integrative analysis of the theory and practice of organization of control over students' educational-cognitive activity at Ukrainian higher educational establishments during the second part of XX century; the educators and scholars' ideas on the essence and modes of organization of control over students' educational-cognitive activity at Ukrainian higher educational establishments during the second part of XX century have been singled out and systematized; the stages in the organization of control over students' educational-cognitive activity at Ukrainian higher educational establishments during the second part of XX century have been investigated; the terms "control over educational-cognitive activity", "feedback", "pedagogical diagnostics", "the standard of learning material acquisition" and others have been scrutinized; the issues concerning the use of different forms and methods of control in teaching, the specific aspects of programming the control over students' educational-cognitive activity, state policy on the organization of control in secondary schools have been analysed. Some unknown archival materials are offered for scientific research and analysis (15); results - the ideas and conclusions of the research concerning the efficient organization of control over students' educational-cognitive activity at Ukrainian higher educational establishments during the second part of XX century are recommended for the implementation in the teaching process of higher educational establishments of III-IV levels of accreditation with the aim to improve professional training of future specialists for all branches of national economy. The theoretical ideas and practical findings of the research may be used for writing textbooks and teaching manuals for students in higher education, for working out teaching programmes and methodological recommendations on courses offered at universities, they will be helpful at lectures, seminars and lab classes, during teaching practice, in teaching "Higher School pedagogy", master degree students and postgraduates may use them ; field - pedagogy.
