Essay

The thesis investigates the use of Byzantine pictorial system in the modern Orthodox churches of Ukraine since obtaining of the state independence up to nowadays. As a result the concept of the notions "iconology", "iconography" and "style" in relation to the Byzantine pictorial system have been defined as well as the evolution of its development have been traced. The influence of Byzantine pictorial painting traditions in the medieval Orthodox countries has been outlined with marking of the typical national characteristics in each of them. The ways of church painting renaissance in the modern Ukraine have been analyzed, the main tendencies, schools, artels, masters have been determined.
