Honcharuk L. Genre aspects in the translation of French-language military discourse official documents

The thesis studies genre aspects in the translation of French-language military discourse ("FMD") official documents for the French-Ukrainian language pair. The paper defines military discourse from the point of view of translation theory, reveals the essence of the French-language military discourse concept and its institutional attributes in the context of military translation, and also unravels verbalized basic concepts in FMD texts and analyzes their reproduction in translation. In the context of military translation, discourse categories have been examined in FMD texts. Grammatical dominants of translation in the FMD texts are discourse categories of modality, personality and diathesis. Types of special military vocabulary and genre peculiarities in the translation of special military vocabulary have been determined in Defense Code, instruction manual, note, PACE Resolution, PACE Recommendation. Results of the discourse analysis in all FMD genres reveal interdiscursive relations, which determine strategies and choice of means and methods in military translation.
