This thesis focuses on study of genre peculiarities of the English horror literature. The notion of genre is elaborated within the framework of the modern translation studies. The analysis of the English horror literature allows determining the genre's core elements and means of its foregrounding. Genre's core elements consist of portraiture of a character, specific temporal and space continuum, emotive background of the text. It has been proved that genre genesis' lexis is integrated into three conceptual groups, where each of them - DEATH, HORROR and DISGUST - is realized within definite cognitive theme. Besides, it has been outlined that the set of linguistic and stylistic means form the genre core of the English horror literature, where to the dominant features belong epithet, comparison, metaphor. The translation analysis points out the set of the dominant ways for translation of each genre forming lexics, linguistic and stylistic means.Key words: genre specificity, genre of horror literature, linguistic objectification of the concepts DEATH, HORROR and DISGUST, genre forming lexical register, linguistic and stylistic means, translation techniques, translation means.
