Object - organization of vocationally- oriented activities in Ukrainian general education schools at the end of XX - the beginning of XXI century; the aim - to systematize the theoretical ideas and generalize the experience of organization of vocationally- oriented activities for high school students within the system of educational and methodological activities in Ukrainian general education schools at the end of XX - the beginning of XXI century in order to raise the present day level of organization of high school students' vocational guidance; methods - general scientific, historical-pedagogical, retrospective, predictive; novelty - the research is the first to present the characterization of the directions in the analysis of the problem of vocational guidance within the school system of educational and methodological activities; the specific elements providing for the implementation of the generalized experience of high school students' vocational guidance within the school system of educational and methodological activities in Ukrainian general education schools at the end of XX - the beginning of XXI century are determined; the content components of vocational guidance activities are specified; the ideas concerning the role of educational districts, interschool training and production plants, vocational guidance premises, training workshops and areas at industrial and agricultural enterprises in the choice of future profession by high school students are analysed ; results - the materials of the research enrich History of Pedagogy data elaborating on the evolution in understanding of the notion "pedagogical experience", its criteria, functions, content and forms of representation, study, implementation, pathways as well as the role of pedagogical press in its reflection at each of the revealed stages. The unknown archival documents (51) of the public education record offices dealing with the development of theory and practice of high school students' vocational guidance within the school system of educational and methodological activities in Ukrainian general education schools at the end of XX - the beginning of XXI century are introduced for scientific study; field - pedagogy.
