Matter:: the process of socialization of students in rural areas of Ukraine in the second half of the twentieth century; Aim: based on the analysis of scientific pedagogical sources, archival materials, pedagogical publications to systematize the theoretical concepts and to summarize the experience of socialization of pupils in conditions of General educational institutions of rural areas of Ukraine in the second half of the XX century; methods: General scientific (analysis, synthesis, systematization, classification of literature sources and archive materials), which was compiled and systematized the views of domestic and foreign scientists on the problem of socialization of students in secondary schools in rural areas; historical (chronological, comparative-historical, historical-typological), which gave the possibility to reproduce the development of the theory and practice of socialization of students in rural schools during the study period; novelty: for the first time carried out a holistic analysis of the theoretical foundations of the problem of socialization of students in secondary schools of rural areas of Ukraine in the second half of the twentieth century, demonstrated the contents, means and forms of socialization of pupils of rural schools; identified and described the stages of socialization of pupils of rural secondary schools during the study period; identified ways of using historical and educationally valuable experience in modern conditions; clarifies the nature of concepts "socialization", "rural secondary school", "socialization of students in rural schools"; further development of the acquired scientific knowledge about the contribution of teachers and scientists in the development of the theory of socialization of pupils in conditions of General educational institutions of rural areas of Ukraine; socio-pedagogical bases of the influence of socio-educational environment on the formation and development of pupils; the practical significance of the research results is that presented in the thesis of factual material, theoretical positions and conclusions can serve as a basis for further scientific research in the field of the theory and practice of social pedagogy; in modern school practice for improvement of the contents, means and forms of socialization of the students of rural areas.
