Essay

The object of the research – the armed actions of the peasantry against Hetman, German and Austrian, White Guard and Bilshovyk regimes in the villages of Sloboda region during 1918-1923. The purpose of research: creating a comprehensive picture of the peasant armed resistance to the economic, political and national pressure from governments and regimes that have replaced each other in the 1918-1923. The methods: historical, statistical, logical, method of analysis and synthesis of facts and sources; comparative-historical, problem-chronological, retrospective, structural-systemic. Scientific novelty: the problem of peasant rebel fight in Sloboda region against Hetman, German and Austrian, Denikin and Bilshovyk regimes in the period from 1918 to 1923 is considered integrally based on a wide historiographical and source background; the main reasons of peasant insurgency origin are studied, its ideological and political components are specified, the main tasks, which the rebels followed on each stage, are clarified; methods of the authorities’ struggle against insurgent farmers are determined, farmers’ attitude to emergency economic measures in rural areas and the corresponding reaction are described; it is proved that the peasant insurgency in Sloboda region should be considered as an attempt of self-defense of own economic, political and national interests; it is specified that disorganization, spontaneity, inability to unite even in the face of great threats are the main drawback of peasant insurgency because of ideological differences; political and national immaturity of Sloboda region peasantry, failure to realize that economic, political and national interests can protect only their own national state used to be the reason of such state degradation. Practical value of research: the materials of research can be used for create of special and general works on the history of the Ukrainian revolution, in the preparation of special courses on the history of the peasantry and its protest movements, for natural history research, for create of textbooks on the history of Ukraine and regional history. Sphere of use: higher educational institutions.
