The thesis analyzes the main tendencies and features of development of Ukrainian art of the modern age. Revealed the specifics of the philosophical foundations of modernism taking into account specific regional differences. Marked regional characteristics of the development of ideas of modernism in Ukrainian art. Illuminated the processes of interaction between national traditions and European artistic context in painting of the end XIX – first third of the twentieth century.
