Essay

The thesis is devoted to the complex investigation of document flow of translations into and from Ukrainian for the period from 1991 to 2013 and the processes of cross-cultural communication which are reflected in their structure. It is accomplished a scientific document analysis of translation, formulated and suggested the definition of the concept "translation" as a document and as an edition. Special features, the essence of document flow of translations, concepts "document flow of translations" and "document flow of translations into and from Ukrainian" are defined. The flow's measurement parameters and outward environment factors which have an influence on their changes are determined. Bibliometric and statistical analysis of document flow of translations into and from Ukrainian was performed according to the data from the bibliographical database "Index Translationum" and statistical digest "Print of Ukraine". The structure, quantitative characteristics, dynamics and main trends of the document flow are studied. The forms of cross-cultural communication reflected in the document flow's structure and the cultures which interact with Ukrainian are determined. Every culture is characterized by a thematic and target communicative direction of translations. Based on the accomplished analysis the representation degree of the document flow is estimated at the world and national levels. It is proved that there is a necessity for further in-depth research in this field. The practical guidance for the implementation of the project on creation of national database "Translations of Ukraine" are offered.
