. The dissertation is dedicated to the pharmacological investigation of semi-solid extract of birch leaves (SSEBL). On the model of potassium chromate-induced nephropathy hypoazotemic and nephroprotective effects were studied, that allowed determining of the most effective dose which equalled 7 mg/kg. At the next stage of the experiments diuretic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects were evaluated. On the model of type 1 diabetes mellitus, using the study in the dynamics of nephropathy development, namely after 1 and 3 monthes, SSEBL decreased the signs of carbohydrate and protein metabolism disorders, reduced systemic inflammation, counterbalanced the processes of blood clotting and fibrinolytic system, normalized leukocyte formula of blood. In total, these pharmacodynamic features resulted in the retardation of diabetic nephropathy progression, as evidenced by normalization of the excretory renal function and reduction in the morphological signs of glomerlosclerosis. On the model of the metabolic syndrome SSEBL decreased insulin resistance and hyperlipidemia, thus contributing to the maintenance of the kidney histological structure.
