Essay

The Dissertation is dealing with highlighting the specifics of the translation of artlangs (artificial languages of literary discourse) on linguistic and ethnic-mental levels. Proceeding from linguosemiotic classification, it was determined how structural and semantic characteristics of artlangs stipulate the strategy of their translation. In particular, a posteriori artlangs that consist of lexemes composed on the basis of morphemes borrowed from natural donor languages require the strategy of domestication implemented with the help of the loan translation (calque) method. A priori artlangs, on the contrary, do not demonstrate any structural resemblance to natural donor languages and thus can only be reproduced following the strategy of foreignization implemented with the help of the transcoding method. On the ethnic-mental level, artlangs serve as markers of alternative worlds and simultaneously as means of embodiment of a fantastic artistic worldview which represents quasi-reality. In its attempt to objectify an alternative world, any artlang, nevertheless, remains in the zone of influence of its natural donor, which guarantees its principal translatability. Key words: a posteriori artlang, a priori artlang, domestication, donor language, foreignization, loan translation (calque), strategy, transcoding, worldview.
