Object - the organization of extra-curricular educational activity in the comprehensive institutions of Ukraine (the second half of the XIXth - the beginning of the XXth century); the aim - to carry out the retrospective analysis of the theoretical issues and to generalize the experience of students' moral education in extra-curricular activity of the educational institutions of the Department of the Ministry of Public Education in Ukraine of the second half of the XIXth - the beginning of the XXth century to use pedagogically valuable attainments in modern comprehensive educational institutions; methods - scientific, historical, chronological, comparative-analytical, prognostic; novelty - first, the theory and the practice of the organization of students' moral education in extra-curricular activity of the educational institutions of the Department of the Ministry of Public Education in Ukraine in the second half of the XIXth - at the beginning of the XXth century are analyzed; domestic scientists' ideas are systematized; the developmental stages of the issues of students' moral education in extra-curricular activity of the educational institutions of the Department of the Ministry of Public Education in Ukraine of the second half of the XIXth - the beginning of the XXth century are scientifically grounded; the theoretical ideas and the experience of the organization of students' moral education in extra-curricular activity of the educational institutions of the Ministry of Public Education of the studied period are actualized in modern conditions; the prognostic trends of the further development of the issues of students' moral education organization in extra-curricular activity are determined. The concepts of the source of the ideas of organization of students' moral education in the domestic pedagogical thought and school practice are enhanced. The issues of the organization of students' moral education in extra-curricular activity due to the socio-economic, socio-political and organizational-pedagogical factors got further development. There is the specification of the essence of the concept "students' moral education in extra-curricular activity" as a system of actions on moral education aimed at the purposeful formation of students' moral consciousness, the development of students' moral feeling, habits and skills of moral behavior by means of the educational process participants' specially organized cooperation in non-school hours. results - the thesis and the findings, formed during the scientific research, fully reflect the features of the development of the national system of school education and the pedagogical thought of the second half of the XIXth - the beginning of the XXth century. The study's results can be the basis for further historical and pedagogical researches and can promote the preservation of pedagogically valuable experience and its further creative use; field - pedagogy.
