Essay

The object of the research is Australian system of continuing teacher education. The aim of the research is to identify the peculiarities of public school teachers' professional development in Australia and to substantiate the possibilities of creative usage of progressive ideas of this experience in the process of ensuring public school teachers' professional development in Ukraine. The research methods are comparative-historical method, induction, deduction, logical, analytical, descriptive, statistical, comparative, prognostic methods, questionnaires and surveys. The peculiarities of public school teachers' professional development in Australia have been firstly determined; the legislative and normative base has been analyzed; the structure of the modern continuing teacher education (pre-service and in-service), which is provided by special services, institutions, and organizations, has been characterized; the scientific and methodological recommendations for progressive ideas and experience of Australian teachers' professional development usage in Ukrainian pedagogical reality have been developed. The content of such concepts as "professional development of a teacher", "professional growth of a teacher", "personal and professional development" has been specified. The research results have been applied in the educational process. Higher educational establishments are the field of author's proposals usage.
