Essay

The thesis generalizes theories on the problem of lyceum students' civic responsibility education and reveals the development of ideas concerning the education of personal civic responsibility. The theoretical notion of students' civic responsibility is specified. The following components of students' civic responsibility have been distinguished: 1) need-driven; 2) cognitive; 3) determined by values; 4) behavioral. A comprehensive overview of foreign and domestic educational experience in developing students' civic responsibility has been conducted. The criteria (such as motivational, rationally oriented, attitudinal and behavior-reflectional), indicators and methodological tools for diagnosing the level of students' civic responsibility development have been created. The thesis also outlines and justifies the pedagogical conditions for students' civic responsibility development in the educational work of a lyceum, namely: 1) forming the readiness of subject teachers and class teachers for educating civic responsibility in students; 2) ensuring the cooperation of efforts on the part of pedagogical workers, parents and public communities to provide for education and self-education of students' civic responsibility; 3) developing of efficient students' self-governance bodies and involving the students into participation; 4) including the topics and issues of lyceum students' civic responsibility education into subject programs. The methodology of students' civic responsibility education has been justified; this includes the following components: objectional (goal and objectives), methodological (theoretical basis and approaches); content-based (values); operational (stages, pedagogical conditions, forms, methods, techniques, media); result-oriented (medium and high level of students' civic responsibility development); control and correction (diagnostic tools; introducing changes to the respective methodological blocks).
