The thesis presents a study of main evolutionary trends in translation of figurative phraseology of English prose into Ukrainian in the 19th-21st centuries. It provides a comparative analysis of separate layers of complex phraseological meaning in source texts and their translations into the target language including: 1) semantics; 2) ethnocultural colouring; 3) allusion; 4) phraseological form which determines the level of phraseological saturation; 5) functional and stylistic features.
