Essay

The dissertation researches the novels "The Attic", "Garden, Ashes", "Early Sorrows" and "Hourglass" by D.Kish, "Timor mortis", "Premeditated murder", "Fathers and forefathers" by S.Selenich, "Bait", "Snow Man", "Gotz and Meyer" by D. Albahari from a narratological and conceptual viewpoints. The work provides generalizations on themes and problems and discusses stylistic peculiarities of novels. The paper emphasizes the influence of the World literature on Serbian prose of the 60s-90s of the 20th century. On the basis of analysis of the text world the author determines the narrative models and structures of the novels. The thesis proves that due to the concept "the man - history", desire for authenticity, creating the illusion of readers' personal presence the writers mostly use homodiegetic narrative. The concepts "alienation", "trauma", "memory", "death", which are fundamental in the works of writers, are connected with the historical background, namely World War II and the Holocaust. The concept of narrative creativity of D.Kish is connected with the achievements of Dzh.Dzhoys, which contain elements of the "new prose". His novels are based on the elements of autobiography, "a novel about the artist" on the one hand and the idea of (new) history from the other hand. The central concepts of the artistic world of D.Kish are "death" and "history" and subconcepts associated with them, such as remembering, sacrifice, alienation, inevitability, madness, tragedy. His works are characterized by different narrative approaches and techniques.
