Essay

The thesis is dedicated to the comprehensive analysis of the educational activity and pedagogical ideas of A. M. Aleksiuk (1932 - 2014), the Ukrainian didactic scientist, Doctor of Science in Education, professor, academician of the Ukrainian Higher Education Academy of Sciences. He worked as a teacher of country school, then took his post graduate course and obtained Candidate of Pedagogical Siences Degree (1963). In 1968 - 1972 he held the post of Deputy Minister of Education of the USSR. In 1976 he became a professor, Doctor of Science in Education; headed the Department of Pedagogy at Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University (1975 - 1990), a professor of the department, Academician and Head of Higher School Pedagogy Department of Ukrainian Higher Education Academy of Sciences. He initiated some new trends of research in high school general methods and higher school modular-tutorial system of teaching. In the first section "Theoretical foundations of scientific and pedagogical heritage of A. M. Aleksiuk" of the dissertation the relevance of the personalistic direction of historical and pedagogical research as one of the leading trends of the modern pedagogy substantiated. The directions of educational activity of A. M. Aleksiuk revealed and grounded: historical research of the development of education in Ukraine; development of national education and education in Ukraine; development of didactics of high school; pedagogical ideas of prominent personalities; application of the modular-tutorial system in high school education; training of pedagogical and scientific-pedagogical staff; educational management; development of theory of general teaching methods. In the second section "Pedagogical and Educational Activities of A. M. Aleksiuk" the development of didactics of higher education as an important component of pedagogical science in the analysis of the scientist has been considered. The third section "Implementation of scientific and pedagogical ideas of A. M. Alekiuk in the practice of educational institutions of Ukraine" is devoted to the analysis of pedagogical activity characteristics.A. M. Aleksiuk was one of the first Ukrainian didactics who developed the theory of modular studies.He stressed that it would be necessary to spend more time on independent work. The relevance of pedagogical ideas of A. M. Aleksiuk and their importance for the modern system of education in Ukraine have been proved in the thesis.
