The thesis presents a holistic analysis of the problem of preparing students for life in the creative heritage of V.O. Sukhomlynskyi. The essence of the concept “preparing for life”, its structure and components have been determined. In the course of the scientific research the theoretical positions of V. O. Sukhomlynskyi about the preparing students for life have been characterized; the evolution of his pedagogical views, which contributed to the transformation of the model of preparing students for adulthood from the school of knowledge to the model of the school of work as the basis for preparing students for life, has been described; the peculiarities of preparing students for life at different stages of school education and training, which are considered as a purposeful, gradual process of the formation of a well-integrated personality who can be successfully socialized in adulthood, be a citizen, an employee, a parent, which meet the needs of the society, have been considered. The forms and methods of preparing students for life in Pavlysh secondary school have been generalized, as well as the prospects of using V. O. Sukhomlinskyi's creative heritage to prepare students for life in modern educational institutions of Ukraine have been determined. Field – pedagogy.
