Essay

The dissertation sets out to provide a complex analysis of all accessible and unpublished scientific and critical works of M. Zerov in order to reveal the main components of his translation studies conception, which undeniably contributed to the creation of the Ukrainian tradition of translation with the focus on the culture-shaping process. The research consists of an Introduction, four Сhapters, Сonclusions, Bibliography and four Appendices. The first chapter “Translation as a culturе-shaping process in the conception of Mykola Zerov” is arranged into three subchapters. The second chapter “Fundamentals of the translation studies conception of M. Zerov” provides insights into the genres and methodology of translation-oriented critical, historical and literary works of M. Zerov. In the third chapter the main provisions of the translation studies conception of M. Zerov are highlighted. In the fourth chapter we investigate the actualization of Mykola Zerov’s theoretical developments in the domain of translation practice. M. Zerov has enriched the Ukrainian translation literature with works by the authors of symbolism and neoclassicism, highlighting the aesthetic and appealing functions of translation.
