The thesis reveals the problem of training teachers-philologists of dual profile from 1956 to the beginning of the XXI century by examining the content of teaching in higher educational institutions of Ukraine. The conceptual apparatus of the problem of preparation of dual profile teachers-philologists is described, the historiography and sources of the research are analyzed, the preconditions for formation and the main stages of the development of the preparation of a broad-profile teacher-philologist in pedagogical universities of Ukraine during 1956 – beginning of the XXI century are determined. Major trends of development of training teachers-philologists of dual profile were presented. The content, forms, methods and means of training teachers-philologists with two specialties were disclosed. The peculiarities of training teachers-philologists of dual profile in current conditions of implementation of the Bologna Convention reestablished. The necessity of development of state standards and educational providing for training the teacher with two philological specialties.
