Essay

Object – the activity of pedagogical congresses of 1861-1920; aim – to determine the impact of pedagogical congresses of the researched period on the development of ideas and practice of teaching and upbringing of the youth; methods – general scientific, historical, comparative; novelty – the research is the first to provide a comprehensive analysis of the specific aspects of organization and activities of pedagogical congresses of the period under research (1861-1920 ) with respect to social and political changes and pedagogical transformations; the main vectors in the work of congresses concerning the problems of teaching and upbringing of students are determined; the perspectives of creative use of historical pedagogical experience of solving problems of teaching and upbringing of the youth at the pedagogical congresses are outlined; the contribution of educational congresses to the development of pedagogical ideas is specified: the justification of pedagogy and psychology relationship, the creation of pedagogical departments and pedagogical faculties at universities, the organization of research laboratories; results – the research brings to light the pedagogical ideas of the past, that are typologically similar to the modern problems of didactics, teaching an upbringing as well as the means for their joint solution, the problems of training teachers and their professional development. The materials and conclusions of the research, the factual historical and theoretical material can be used for further study of the issues of the history of education in Ukraine, for preparing lectures and special courses on "Pedagogy", "High School Pedagogy", "History of pedagogy", "Pedagogical Skills", textbooks, manuals and teaching recommendations for students of higher education pedagogical institutions, for writing course and Master degree projects; field – pedagogy.
