The thesis presents a complex study of functioning of neologisms in French Internet communication. The paper highlights the neologization processes in contemporary French and identifies Internet communication as the medium most conducive to the emergence of neologisms, allowing them to spread as widely as possible and establish themselves in the language with further disclosure of their lexical-semantic potential. The functions of neologisms in the sphere of high technologies have been revealed. Certain neologisms that modify either narrow or broad semantic meaning are identified. It is confirmed that the French language actively implements its own word-building capabilities to nominate new realities. Genres of the Internet communication are highlighted, since they have their own specific features. The choice of language units that is directly affected by the genres of Internet communication, have been established in the process of implementing the intentions of the network user to achieve the aim of с ommunication. Such functions of neologisms in the French-speaking Internet communication as: the nominative function (giving new realities their new names, first of all via word-building); the expressive (subjective vision and kaleidoscope of feelings through the use of emoticons or neologisms that contain evaluative or emotional components); language saving function (reduction of various nominative units: shortenings, abbreviations, and others); the function of informativeness and prestige (attracting the reader’s attention using the neologism, which enhances the informative prestige of the message and gives it a hint of novelty); linguocultural function (reproduction of vividness of the source language) are revealed.
