Essay

The object of the research focuses on genre, stylistic and cultural specificities of the dystopian novels, which form the boundaries of the genre. The subject of the research incorporates the methods, techniques, transformations and strategies of translational presentation of genre and stylistic dominants in English-Ukrainian translation with due regard to key principles of cultural analysis. The research is aimed at defining genre, stylistic and cultural specificities of dystopian novels as well as the specificities of their presentation in English-Ukrainian translation. The research methodology involves using a number of general scientific, linguistic and literary and specifically translatological methods. Academic novelty of the research is determined by the fact that it was the first to implement a complex model of research of the genre and stylistic specificities of rendering dystopian novels in Ukrainian translations with regard to the relevant cultural factors; specify the genre, linguistic and stylistic nature of the dystopian genre; suggest a psychological instrument of associative mapping aiming at covering the invariant features of the dystopian genre; identify the influence of the ideological factors while creating the original and translated dystopian texts; bring to attention genre and stylistic specifics of the dystopian novels in the light of retranslation hypothesis as seen from the perspective of the post-colonial cultural paradigm; outline the entirety of recurrent genre and stylistic dominants of the dystopia and define the prevalent methods, techniques, transformations and strategies of their interpretation in Ukrainian translation. In its theoretical aspect, the research introduces the implementation of a theoretically and methodologically reasonable approach towards the translatological analysis of the genre, stylistic and cultural specifics of the dystopian novels. Practical significance of the paper is preconditioned by the application of the theoretical results and materials in the lecture courses "Introduction to Translation Studies", "Fundamentals of Literary Translation", "Sociolinguistic and Pragmatic Aspects of Translation", "Stylistics of a Foreign Language", "Current Challenges of Contemporary Translation Studies", in translation activity and training of translators / interpreters.
