Essay

The adaptation of foreign students in US universities is the research object. The research aim is to reveal the peculiarities of support for foreign students’ adaptation in US universities and outline the possibilities for the relevant practice improvement in Ukrainian universities on the basis of extrapolation of the US progressive ideas and experience in this field. The research methods are analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, comparative-historical, logical method, structural-system, systematization and generalization, questioning, dialogue. For the first time features of organizational and pedagogical provision of foreign students’ adaptation in US universities have been revealed; the foreign students’ adaptation in universities as a scientific and pedagogical problem has been highlighted; US university education in the context of the international educational space has been characterized; the analysis of the organizational and pedagogical provision of foreign students’ adaptation in US universities has been conducted, which is based on the developed model; the possibility of implementation of progressive ideas and experience of the USA in university education of Ukraine has been outlined. The notions “psychological adaptation”, “sociocultural adaptation”, “academic adaptation”, “campus”, “the teacher’s polycultural competence”, “components of the university environment”, “recruiting” have been clarified. The research results have been applied in the educational process. Higher educational establishments are the sphere of author's proposals usage.
