Mykolyshena T. Linguistic and Stylistic Specificities of Rendering R. Dahl’s Magic World Image in Ukrainian Translations

The object of the research comprises dominant linguistic and stylistic specificities of R. Dahl’s individual style representing the author’s magic world image. The subject of the research is constituted by the methods, strategies and factors of rendering dominant linguistic and stylistic specificities of R. Dahl’s individual style in Ukrainian translations. The research is aimed at determining the specificities of rendering linguistic and stylistic means used to represent R. Dahl’s magic world image in Ukrainian translations through such methodological instruments as translation dominant feature and translation strategy. The research methodology involves using a number of general scientific, philological and specifically translatological methods, namely comparative, linguistic and stylistic, structural and semantic analyses, as well as methods of classification, continuous sampling and quantitative calculations. Academic novelty of the research is determined by the fact that it was the first to: analyze the specificities of rendering the author’s individual world image in the translations through the selection and classification of the dominant features of the author’s individual style; provide an integral analysis of R. Dahl’s individual style including the strategies and methods of its rendering in Ukrainian translations; specify the definition of the translation dominant feature; introduce an integrated framework of translation analysis of the magic world image of children’s books taking into account personal, national, and cultural factors. In its theoretical aspect, the research introduces a theoretically and methodologically reasonable approach towards translatological analysis of the magic world image of children’s books in English-Ukrainian translation. Major provisions of the research contribute to the general, partial, cognitive and discursive theories of English-Ukrainian translation. Practical significance of the paper consists in applying of its theoretical points and practical results in delivering lecture courses of "Introduction to Translation Studies", "Fundamentals of Literary Translation", "Sociolinguistic and Pragmatic Aspects of Translation", "Stylistics of a Foreign Language", "Current Challenges of Contemporary Translation Studies", in translation activity and training of translators / interpreters.
