The object is the names of the intraurban enterprises of the commercial and restaurant business which are elements of the written texts of the urban environment, one of the means of forming the onomastic space and they present the linguistic space of the modern city (through the example of the city of Kharkiv); the aim is to determine lexical-semantic, word-building and functional peculiarities of emporonyms and trapesonyms as components of the onomastic space of the city and as peripheral disks of onyms; methods – inductive, deductive, analysis, synthesis, scientific description, observation, systematization, classification, interpretation, word-formation analysis, linguistic modeling, description, field study, quantitative processing, the method of analogies; novelty – first, the regional onym material has been involved in the analysis; the names of urban objects of commercial and restaurant business have been considered as components of the ergonomic field of the onomastic space of the city; the onomastic status of emporonyms and trapesonyms, isolated from the group of ergonyms in independent subdivisions, has been substantiated in onomatology for the first time; these terms have been included in the scientific circulation of the Ukrainian Russian studies; the component composition of the full name on the business sign of the enterprises of trade and public catering has been explicitly specified, the functions of its components have been described, the name of the public space has been compared with the terms "emporonym" or "trapesonym" in accordance with the profile of the activity of the object to which this name belongs; Emporonyms and trapesonyms have been considered for the first time as onomastic microsystems characterized by a specific set of typed word-building models; the whole spectrum of onyms capable of transonimiting in the trapesonyms and emporonyms have been revealed; techniques of linguistic creativity in emporonyms and trapesonyms have been revealed and systematized; results – the research materials can be used in the practice of teaching lecture courses on lexicology, in special courses on onomastics, as well as in comparative scientific studies of emporonyms and trapesonyms of different cities. The collected and investigated names of the enterprises of the trading and restaurant business of Kharkiv may become part of the corps of urbanonyms necessary for the development of theoretical positions of urban linguistics. The analyzed material and obtained results can be used in the lexicographic practice during the development of dictionaries of emporonyms and trapesonyms; field – philology.
