In the dissertation the process of development of distillery industry in the Right-bank Ukraine in the second half of the XIX – the beginning of the XX century (until 1914) was comprehensively and thoroughly highlighted. The situation of distillation through the prism of economic policy and legal regulation of the production of alcoholic beverages by the Russian Empire is analyzed. The sources of raw material and technical support of this branch are revealed. Infrastructure of distilleries is explored. The forms of selling alcoholic beverages both on the external and internal markets are determined, and the role of different types of transport in it is determined.
The aim of the research is to investigate the peculiarities of the development of the distillery industry in the Right-Bank Ukraine in the conditions of the establishment of market relations in the second half of the XIX – the beginning of the XX century.
To achieve the goal you need to accomplish the following tasks:
- to find out the state of scientific development of the topic under study, to study its source base, to determine the theoretical and methodological foundations of the research;
- to characterize the situation of the distillery industry at the initial stage of the transition of the economy of the Russian Empire to market relations;
- to highlight the features of the Russian Empire's economic policy regarding the development of the distillery sector, the main sources of financing;
- to analyze the directions of material and technical modernization of distillery production;
- to study the main ways of providing the raw material industry;
- to find out tendencies of functioning of external and internal markets of products of the distillery industry.
The object of the research is the socio-economic processes that took place in the Right-Bank Ukraine in the defined period.
The subject of research is the development of the distillery industry in the Right-Bank Ukraine in the second half of the XIX – the beginning of the XX century.
The chronological framework of the study covers the period from the second half of the XIX – the beginning of the XX century (until 1914). The lower boundary is the 60's of the XIX century, when the abolition of serfdom and the implementation of progressive reforms, which gave impetus to the establishment of market relations in the economy of the Russian Empire, part of which at that time was the Right-Bank Ukraine. The upper boundary - 1914 - the beginning of the First World War, when the industry was reoriented to military needs, and most distillery factories have reduced or stopped their production.
The territorial boundaries of the study are determined by the borders of the three right-bank governorates of Ukraine, which at that time were an integral part of the Russian Empire, namely: Volyn, Kyiv and Podolsk.
Methodological basis of the dissertation. The dissertation is based on the basic principles of objectivism, historicism, systemicity, worldview pluralism and dialectical understanding of the historical process, an unbiased approach to complex phenomena of socio-economic life.
During the research, the following methods were used: analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, generalization, problem-chronological, comparative-statistical, diachronic, analytical-typological, system-structural, retrospective, logical-analytical, as well as the method of systematization and classification of documentary facts, the combination of which contributed to the study of various aspects of the scientific problem.
The practical significance of the results obtained is the ability of scientists to use theoretical conclusions and concrete factual material for the development of manuals, thematic directories, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and other teaching materials that will contribute to improving the effectiveness of learning, as well as research activities on the development of the distillery industry in Right-Bank Ukraine in the second half of the XIX – the beginning of the XX century. Actual materials, theoretical positions and conclusions of the dissertation research can also be used when writing generalization works on the history of Ukraine, related issues of historical and economic nature, in the preparation and development of special courses on industrial history in higher and secondary educational institutions, for compiling suggestions and recommendations from economic problems on the basis of advisory.
