Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the study of development and provision of pedagogical support for adopted children from Ukraine to the United States in the English language acquisition and outlines the prospects for implementation the most progressive ideas of foreign experience in the educational practice in Ukraine. The analysis of the theoretical foundations of the problem under investigation revealed that pedagogical support for adopted children from Ukraine to the United States includes the creation of an appropriate legislative and legal framework and the search for effective methods that will promote successful acculturation. The scientific novelty of the study consists in making the subject of a comprehensive scientific analysis of the preparation of orphan children in the English language acquisition before and after the adoption in the USA for the first time, which can make the process of acculturation less traumatic in the future. The main historical periods of the formation and development of the system of pedagogical support for orphans in the USA are described. The analysis of American scientific-historical, scientific-pedagogical sources allowed to determine that the process of formation and development of the system of work with orphans in the United States during the period of the XX – the beginning of the XXI century can be conditionally divided into three main periods: the first period (1900–1929), the second period (1930–1961), the third period (1961– up to the present time). It was found out that during the speech adaptation of adopted children, their cognitive and linguistic ranges expand; the development of cognitive, emotional processes, personal development, self-realization in their own speech, and an active formation of consciousness in accordance with new living conditions occur. It has been established that effective speech adaptation of the individual to a foreign environment performs the integrative function, and disadaptation leads to speech assimilation or speech isolation, which has the character of psychological defense or solitude. It has been cleared up that the condition of the successful adaptation of adopted children to a foreign language environment is a satisfaction of their needs and motives, as well as the preservation of their own and new values. The analysis of the theoretical foundations of the problem under investigation revealed that pedagogical support for adopted children from Ukraine to the United States includes the creation of an appropriate legislative and legal framework and the search for effective methods that will promote successful acculturation. The concepts of «pedagogical support», «orphan» are specified. It has been found that the term «pedagogical support for adopted children» in American science includes the concepts of «counseling», «leadership», «support», «mentoring». The concept of «linguistic adaptation» is defined, which should be understood as the effective use by the individual of linguistic means of social and linguistic and cultural environment for the satisfaction of essential needs, motives, preservation of own and acquired values. It is established that the philosophy of educational standards in the field of studying foreign languages in the United States (National Standards of Foreign Languages Education), is based on the condition that the study of foreign languages and cultures should be the basis of the curriculum. It is found that US educational standards in the field of language learning reflect interrelated areas: 5C – communication, culture, connection, comparison, communities. It has been found that the American education system is geared towards providing special educational services for children with language delay or lingual disorders, deaf children, children with cognitive and other health problems through the Federal Part-B Disability Education Act (IDEA). The scientific provisions concerning the content, forms, and methods of the implementation of language education and peculiarities of providing pedagogical support to adopted children are supplemented. It is reasonable to use the progressive ideas of the US experience in the development of language education and education of orphans in Ukraine. New facts, concepts, theoretical ideas and approaches to pedagogical support for adopted children have been introduced into the scientific use.
