In the thesis the content of readers in formation of the responsibility of primary school students (the second half of the XX – the beginning of the XXI century) is comprehensively explained. The historical and pedagogical analysis of the contents of the readers as a means of forming the responsibility of primary school students (the second half of the twentieth century – the beginning of the twenty-first century) made it possible to characterize the periods: the first (1958–1971) – the focus of content of readers for primary school on the formation of a responsible attitude to work; the second (1971–1985) – the orientation of the content of readers on the formation of a responsible attitude to cognitive activity of younger schoolchildren; the third (1985–1991) – updating the contents of the readers in the formation of a responsible attitude to the socially useful activities of younger schoolchildren; the forth (1991–2015) – modernization of the content of readers in the formation of responsibility as an integrated quality of younger schoolchildren).
