Object of the reseach - the system of education in England in 1870-1914; subject of the reseach - the peculiar features of the development of technical education in England in 1870-1914; methods have been applied: general scientific - analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, generalization, systematization, comparison; historic-retrospective, theoretical and systematic-structural; historic-genetic; pedagogical interpretation; the novelty of the research paper consists in the following: for the first time in the history of national pedagogy the integral analysis of realization of the idea of technical education in the educational establishments of England in the period of 1870-1914 has been depicted; three periods of its development in England within the period under review have been defined and substantiated (Ist period: 1870-1888; IInd period: 1889-1899; IIId period: 1900-1914); the theoretical basis and practical value of the issues raised in the research paper in reference to the subject of technical education, which are studied and revised by the foreign and native scientists, have been characterized; the traditions and specific features of the structure, functions and context of technical education implemented in numerous types of schools in England in the period under review have been revised and defined; the common and specific features of technical education development in England and Ukraine have been revealed.
