The object of research: processes related to the suppression of reproductive function, hormonal background, changes in the reproductive system and mammary gland of cats, bitches, gilts after the use of medical methods of suppression of reproductive function.
The purpose of research: To scientifically substantiate expediency of use of drugs for suppression of reproductive function in cats, bitches, gilts, to determine the level of reproductive hormones in the blood for the use of these drugs, to conduct diagnostics of the pathology of the reproductive system and the mammary gland, to develop new and to improve existing pharmacological methods of suppression of reproductive function in domestic animal females.
Methods of research: clinical, sonographic, cytological, hormonal, statistical.
Scientific novelty: It is the first time that monitoring of the use of hormonal contraceptives for domestic animals.
For the first time, changes in the cytological picture of vaginal imprints, sonography of the genital organs (uterus, ovaries) and the level of progesterone in the blood of the female during and after the application the GnRH agonist have been studied. It was found that in dogs at 7-17 days after the introduction of the drug "Suprelorin" there is a so-called "flare up effect".
For the first time in Ukraine it was proved clinically and experimentally that the use of GnRH implant "Suprelorin" suppresses reproductive function in cats of different age groups (prepubertal and pubertal) at 920 ± 107 and 379 ± 68 days, respectively.
A new scheme of application of the hormonal progestogenic preparation for cats based on MPA in a reduced dosage is developed: 5 mg MPA multiplicity once every 30 days. The use of the drug under this scheme effectively inhibits the reproductive function of cats and 43% reduces the occurrence of the pathology of the reproductive system (endometritis, metritis, pyometra, ovarian cysts).
The effectiveness of the use of the developed method of complex medical contraception of female domestic animals (bitches, cats) with the combination of progestogen hormones (MA) and homeopathic preparations “Ovariovit” and “Mastometrin”, which reduces the number of disorders of the reproductive system and mammary gland by 16%, is experimentally determined. cats and 22.9% in bitches.
It was found that in the case of application of progestogen medicaments for 7-15 days to the expected estrus in the dosage according to the instructions, the pathology of the reproductive system occurs in 8.6% of cats and in 9.4% of bitches, however, when using these drugs for 1-7 days cycle (proestrus, eustrus) in dosage according to the instructions, the pathology of the sexual system is diagnosed in 94.6% of cats and 89.6% of bitches.
It is proved that the use of drugs based on MA in pigs is not effective enough to suppress their reproductive function, since these drugs prolong the reproductive cycle of animals for a short time (on average, from 6 to 18 days).
It has been established that MA-based preparations in therapeutic doses (5 mg, 10 mg, 15 mg) do not show a contraceptive effect and do not prevent unwanted pregnancy in cats.
Proposed: To suppress the reproductive function in bitches and cats it is necessary to prescribe hormonal preparations only after obligatory clinical examination of females (review, sonography, determination of the level of sex hormones, vaginal cytology). Applying contraceptives can only clinically healthy animals, without any changes in the sexual system and mammary gland for 7-15 days before the oestrus, according to the following scheme: for cats 10 mg MA 2 times a month, for bitches 5 mg MA 20 days in a row .
Use a method of drug contraception in cats with a drug-based MPA in a dosage of one tablet (5 mg) once a month in the absence of manifestations of estrus, at the rate of 20 months in a row (Patent for utility model from 01/25/2012, №122925).
To reduce the adverse effects on the reproductive system of bitch and cats, it is proposed to use the method of complex medical contraception of domestic females, which is the simultaneous use of a contraceptive preparation based on MA with an intramuscular administration of homeopathic drugs "Ovaryovit" and "Mastometrin" in dosage for average and large breeds of 2-4 ml, cats and small breeds of dogs of 0.5-2 ml, at the rate of 6 weeks (Patent for the utility model from 10.01.2018 № 122511).
Implant "Suprelorin" (4.7 mg) is recommended for cats of prepubertal age for prolonged postponement of manifestations of the stage of excitation of the reproductive cycle.
