Essay

The thesis is devoted to the experimental substantiation of the expediency of using a new antidiabetic agent for the treatment and prevention of diabetes. It has been established that the dry ginger extract has antihyperglycemic, antioxidant, hypolipidemic properties, the ability to inhibit the development of postprandial hyperglycemia, improves the sensitivity of tissues to the action of insulin and increases glucose tolerance. These characteristics provide pronounced antidiabetic properties of the dry ginger extract on the experimental model of metabolic syndrome caused by a hypercaloric high-fructose diet in Syrian golden hamsters and on the models of diabetes mellitus type 2 induced by dexamethasone and streptozotocin in rats. In terms of the expressiveness of the pharmacological action, the dry ginger extract is significantly superior to the comparator drug, the multicomponent plant collection "Arphasetinum" and is not inferior to the glucose-lowering drug of the group of biguanides – metformin. The results of the study substantiate the feasibility of the development of a drug with an anti-diabetic effect based on the dry ginger medicinal extract for pharmacotherapy of type 2 diabetes mellitus and correction of the manifestations of the metabolic syndrome, as a monotherapy and in combination with oral hypoglycemic agents
